BCG Attorney Search speaks with attorneys about law firms every day. Here is what attorneys are saying:

if you're not in the immediate circle of friends or are in the wrong office, you can feel like you're on the outside looking in.

Liebert Cassidy Whitmore (LCW) is a law firm that offers its employees a great working environment, generous benefits and holiday bonus, and continual education. According to reviews, the firm has a decent reputation in the employment field, with classroom training for new hires, and management that puts into practice what they preach. People who work at the firm have said that everyone is friendly and the work culture is great.

However, there are some drawbacks to working at LCW. Reviews have stated that there is no office in certain areas, and that there is a lot of work that can be overwhelming. There is also a high turnover rate, meaning there are always fresh faces in the office. Additionally, there is a long process to becoming a partner, and some favoritism may be exhibited to certain staff members.

Overall, the reviews are generally positive and lean towards a great environment, but there are some cons to be aware of when thinking of working at this firm. LCW is committed to doing the best for their clients and are fair and even-handed with their employees. With a team of bright, professional and generally friendly attorneys, this is a great place to work and grow.

Pros: 5.0 Current EmployeeUnique Law Firm Dedicated to Serving the Public Good. Give Us a try!Associate ProsLiebert Cassidy Whitmore is a unique and special law firm that does cutting-edge labor and employment work for clients that serve the public good: cities, counties, nonprofits, schools and other public agencies in California. We have offices throughout California and most associates have the opportunity to work with clients throughout the state. I've been at the firm in the SF office for years but many other associates have been here for longer. The firm culture is collegial and familial. We all work very hard but we have opportunities to bond and get together a number of times a year in lovely places throughout the state. The firm's level of business has perhaps never been higher and there is (more than) plenty of work to be done. This is a place where you can be as busy as you want to be. Our minimum billable hours requirement is on the low end. And while some associates regularly exceed the minimum billable requirement (which entitles you to a very transparent, formula-based bonus), many choose to meet the minimum and enjoy a different work life balance than those who prefer to put in more billable hours. Something very unique about our firm is that workload is managed and coordinated by office managing partners and thus there will never be a time when an associate is only doing work for one partner or one client (well, perhaps if you're in trial you will). Rather, there is always someone that knows what you are working on, knows when to ask if you can take on something know and knows if you are at capacity, and if so, you can reach out and they will help you manage what's on your plate. As for the substance of our work, it is somewhat of a niche because of our clientele and because we specialize in employment and labor laws that apply to our clients (which may not apply to the private sector). But if you are interested in working as a county counsel or city attorney, that's the type of work we do. If you are interested in public policy, you should find our work interesting. If you are interested in the dynamics of schools or nonprofits and the labor and employment laws that apply to those workforces, you should find our work interesting. I find the firm extremely supportive in that more experienced attorneys are happy to share their knowledge to help you best advise our clients. It is common for partners and associates to brainstorm with each other and ask for help on all sorts of issues - this is necessary since so much of what we do can be a matter of first impression. I know the partnership wants to and does support its employees - staff, associates, everyone. I've read some comments on this site about our firm's annual self-evaluation process. Yes, it's true: every year, every attorney at this firm (partners too) must take time to look at where they were a year ago and evaluate the successes and challenges of the year. It is a time to reflect on your accomplishments and mistakes (we all make them), and discuss your goals and where you want to be a year from now. It's not an easy process but it is meaningful and helps you grow and develop as an attorney. At this point in my career, I cannot fathom not wanting to take stock of where you are at in your career goals and development; how could one know if they are just coasting or intentionally setting out to enjoy their work as an attorney. I encourage anyone with an interest in government, politics, people, public policy, and the law to look at Liebert Cassidy Whitmore. We are excited to grow and have new, smart, and interesting people join our firm to do the wonderful work we do for our inspiring clients.ConsNo stock options or insane big-law bonuses. Sorry - our clients are public agencies, schools or nonprofits.
