Jan Baisch has specialized in representing children and families in Oregon for almost 40 years. He has successfully represented hundreds of clients in trials and hearings and has obtained more Jury Verdicts (12) in excess of $1 million than any lawyer in the history of the State of Oregon.
Jan was born in Corvallis, Oregon, in 1949. Jan's dad attended Oregon State University (OSU) on the GI Bill, played on the varsity baseball and basketball teams and went on to become a teacher and coach in McMinnville, Oregon. Jan's mom worked at the county courthouse for over 20 years where she served as bailiff for the jury trials.
Jan excelled in athletics as a young man. In high school, he was an All-State quarterback in football. At OSU he played on the varsity football team for 2 years where he took many beatings from the much bigger and faster USC linemen. He headed straight to Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. Upon graduation in 1974 he went to work at Pozzi, Wilson & Atchison, a highly acclaimed law firm in Portland, Oregon, where he was mentored by several of the premier plaintiff attorneys in the state. In 1990, he left to start his own law firm and has maintained his private practice in the 1000 Broadway Building in downtown Portland for over 20 years.
In 1995, Jan was inducted into The Inner Circle of Advocates - the highest honor of his career. Membership in The Inner Circle is limited to 100 plantiffs trial lawyers in America who have achieved multiple million-dollar jury verdicts and is by-invitation-only. Inner Circle member lawyers privately share information with one another for the benefit of the individuals and families they represent in courtrooms across the United States.
Jan's mentor, Senior Federal District Court Judge Robert E. Jones, taught "Advanced Trial Advocacy" at Lewis and Clark Law School for 25 years. In 1996 Judge Jones appointed Jan as his successor and Jan voluntarily continued to sponsor "Advanced Trial Advocacy" at his alma mater as an adjunct law professor for 10 years. Like those before him, Jan regularly serves as a mentor to graduating law students and to young lawyers in the community, many of whom he has helped secure employment following their graduation.
Jan and his wife Marcia met as freshmen in college in 1967. They have been married for over 40 years. Marcia is a horticulturist and nursery owner/operator of Tryon Creek Nursery where she grows flowers and oversees the grounds surrounding the family estate, which include seven acres of glass greenhouses, trees, shrubs, manicured lawns and gardens in Portland, adjoining the Tryon Creek State Park.
Jan and Marcia are truly "local" Oregonians. Since 1975 they have lived in the same home at Tryon Creek Nursery, which is located within one hour of their respective childhood family homes in the Willamette Valley of Oregon.
Son Thomas was born in 1978 and is also a plaintiffs trial lawyer with offices in Seattle, Washington. Jan and Tom regularly work on cases together.
Tom and his bride Lynette, also a lawyer, were married on 07/07/07 at the Baisch Estate Tryon Creek Nursery. Their son Ruben was born on 06/05/11 and may become a lawyer in the family tradition.
