James Vince Hurley: In Memorium

James "Vince" Hurley was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduating from Loyola University in 1956, Vince earned both his MBA (1957) and LLB (1961) from the University of Wisconsin. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi, Order of the Coif, and on the Board of Editors for the Wisconsin Law Review (1960-1961).

Vince was admitted to the Oregon Bar in 1961 and worked for Portland firm McColloch, Dezedorf and Spears until 1965, when he relocated to Bend. Here, he practiced at DeArmond, Goodrich, Gray, Fancher and Holmes, which became Gray Fancher Holmes and Hurley. In 1995, Vince became partner in the new law firm, Hurley, Lynch & Re, which developed into Hurley Re, P.C., and from which he retired in 2003.

Vince was active in the Central Oregon community, especially with St. Charles Hospital, where he served on its board, was part of its Bio-ethics Committee, and was a member of the Foundation Board. He also served on the Bend La-Pine School Board.

During his long and distinguished legal career, Vince focused his practice on the areas of Business, Corporate, Real Estate, Water and Licensing Law and specialized in contracts, especially those of a complex and scientific nature. He was dedicated to his clients, and his work earned him the admiration of his clients and peers and the deep respect of those that had the privilege to work with him
