Firm History
Serving the Legal Needs of Oklahomans for over a Century
Frailey, Chaffin, Cordell, Perryman & Sterkel LLP, originally Bond & Melton, has a rich history of serving the legal needs of Oklahomans dating back to 1900.
Reford Bond and Alger Melton, were the founding members of the law firm of Bond & Melton, which today is Frailey, Chaffin, Cordell, Perryman & Sterkel LLP. Not only were Bond and Melton highly respected lawyers in the communities of Grady County, but throughout Indian Territory and later the State of Oklahoma.
Reford Bond, active in state politics and public life, was a leader in the single statehood movement, serving on the Territorial Executive Democratic Committee. For a number of years, Bond was the attorney for the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma, handling legal affairs for this sovereign nation before the federal government in Washington DC. Bond was a gifted and dynamic trial lawyer. His presence as counsel in the courtroom always attracted attention throughout the county.
Alger Melton, also a pioneer lawyer in Oklahoma, was influential in the councils of the Democratic party and the Oklahoma State Central Committee, serving as chairman of the Committee. Melton was known for his versatility and resourcefulness as a trial lawyer and contributed greatly to the firm's extensive law library. Much of this library still exists in the firm's offices today, conjoining the past with today's current legal technology.
The legacies of Bond & Melton live on within our firm today. Their passion for the law, their pride in Oklahoma, their commitment to serving their community, and their dedication to providing their clients with exceptional legal service are at the heart of the Frailey, Chaffin, Cordell, Perryman & Sterkel's core values.
We strive to preserve and build upon this rich tradition of providing the best available legal service in Oklahoma for centuries to come.
