Pros: For thirty-eight years, Robert Baptiste and Roland Wilder practiced law in Washington, DC representing labor organizations and individuals in a nationwide labor and employment law practice. They hired me in 1992, first as Of Counsel, then as associate and finally as a member and shareholder of the firm. By 2022, both named partners retired to their lives of wonderful spouses and highly achieving grandchildren, and the firm was dissolved. The remaining firm members moved on to other law firms and practices. Best aspects of the job for me was having a well run law firm backing me up on all matters handled for the clients. Multiple client matters in multiple state and federal courts was always challenging. I was always confident that the financial and administrative operations of the Baptiste & Wilder firm would provide the attorneys with the best level of resources for representation of the firms clients. During my tenure through the dissolution, the firm never took on any debt financing. When cash was short, the named partners always advanced personal funds until the client billing and collections supported the cash flow. The partners were regularly watching office expenses and personnel costs. We never used electronic payments or transfers. The named partners signed every check (and more than once caught some former firm employees trying to take advantage of their generosity. Well run firm. Great to work there for thirty years.
Cons: Bob Baptiste and Roland Wilder retired. It was good for them. The rest of us made our way in practice with other firms and serve many of the same clients.
