Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP was founded on March 1, 1909 in Columbus, Ohio, by Arthur I. Vorys, Lowry F. Sater, Augustus T. Seymour and Edward L. Pease. Since its inception, the firm has grown from a four-person operation to a thriving practice with nearly 375 lawyers across nine cities. A commitment to innovation, client service, high ethical standards, public service, and community involvement have been guiding principles from its inception and remain so to this day. Over the course of more than a century, the firm has built a client base of over 10,000, serving a diverse range of individuals, charitable institutions, and Fortune 50 companies. The firm's original location was established at 52 East Gay Street in Columbus in 1911. Over the years, the firm acquired the building and five neighboring properties, including former spaces occupied by a stable, a hardware store, a dance studio, a telephone company, and a school of cosmetology, creating a unique and interconnected office space. As the firm has grown and expanded, it has remained committed to its traditions and culture. The Washington D.C. office was founded in the 1970s, followed by the Cleveland and Cincinnati offices in the 1980s. The Akron, Ohio office was opened in 2004, followed by the Houston, Texas office in 2009. In 2013, an office was opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and in 2021, the firm expanded to southern California. The newest office, in London, England, was established in September 2022. In the more than 100-year history, the firm has had only six firm-wide managing partners, demonstrating a culture of teamwork and stability, as well as a focus on responsible growth. The legacy of the founders and those who have contributed to the firm's growth and development continues to be felt through the traditions they established and nurtured, which continue to evolve and grow through the efforts of new generations of Vorys lawyers.

Our firm was founded on March 1, 1909 in downtown Columbus. In 1912, the firm moved into its own building located at 52 East Gay Street in Columbus, Ohio, one block from the Ohio Statehouse. The firm remains at this address over 100 years later. However, as the firm has grown from the four founders to more than 200 lawyers in Columbus alone, we have expanded into five additional buildings along Gay Street. Our Columbus lawyers practice in a broad array of areas, including litigation, corporate law, commercial and real estate, labor and employment, health care, federal, state, and local tax law, intellectual property, bankruptcy, and environmental and energy law. Our Columbus lawyers are extremely active in the Columbus Bar Association, where a number of Vorys partners have served as President over the years, and participate in virtually every community and charitable organization in the Columbus area, including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the YWCA, Operation Feed, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Christmas in April.
