Advice to law firm management: Be more receptive to feedback and not take it personally.
Pros: Telecommuting half of the time is great. The more senior attorneys at BAL tend to know their field very well. Lots of resources to ask questions and to gather information.
Cons: BAL had a very narrow and specific "mission focus" and if you aren't 100% in complete agreement with that perspective leadership will note it. There is not a respect for an individual's desire to keep their work and life separate. Leadership uses a lot of fluffed up language and says they care about their employees but it doesn't translate into the day to day. Some managers are not receptive of feedback but will seize any opportunity to highlight a shortcoming from their subordinates. Pride gets in the way of improvement and innovation. Cobalt is touted as an innovative software yet many issues are blatantly and knowingly ignored. Work life balance does not exist. There is an unprofessional culture.
Partners to Avoid and Why: Jeremy Fudge; The CEO and equity partner takes critique too personally and can be quite rude and demeaning to others. Rather than what may best benefit employees he has his own vision which he is set on and will still pursue. This mindset noticeably trickles down into the firm as a whole.
