Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP is a large and well-established law firm with offices in multiple locations throughout the country. Reviews from attorneys and others who have worked at the firm are largely positive. Coworkers are supportive, there is good pay and benefits, and there is a remote work policy. Additionally, there are free training classes and frequent catered lunches. Attorneys report having a solid workload to learn the profession and having the opportunity to work independently. However, some employees report that the firm is still establishing its identity, there is work gossip, and employees are not always appreciated or respected. There are also reports of clueless managers, lack of culture, unfair workloads, poor pay and raises, lack of position-related growth, and numerous bureaucracy. Additionally, many employees report having to work over 40 hours per week with limited paid time off. In conclusion, Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP is a large and well-established law firm with generally positive reviews from its employees. I was treated like family and have the most fondest memories of my days with Shanley & Fisher, Drinker, Biddle & Shanley & Drinker, Biddle & Reath. I retired in 2018 so I was not at the firm when it became Faegre Drinker. I still keep in contact with my attorneys and co- workers. It was the best place I ever worked at.ConsI can't think of one but I understand it is a little different now but still a great place to work.

Advice to law firm management: The firm should focus more on being the best in a smaller number of markets and practice areas, as opposed to achieving adequacy in every major market and most practice areas.

Pros: Formerly a solid, midwest firm with intellectual heft. When still Faegre & Benson it was known for hiring some of the top talent nationally to the extent those recruits went to the midwest.

Cons: The character of the firm has shifted fundamentally through a combination of mergers and acquisitions over the last 10 years. It no longer seeks (nor can it retain) the top talent in its markets but, rather, a group of solidly middle-of-the-road attorneys. The focus now is on business development skills, and the firm is run primarily for the benefit of the small group of top-producing partners. It finds its place among the pack of middling firms with national aspirations, struggling to gain traction in the absence of any particular distinguishing features. Its biggest claim to fame, historically, was the large midwest manufacturing clients with whom it traditionally enjoyed a geographical advantage. This is now a matter of history and habit, rather than any special talent.

Favorite Things About this Firm: There are still, occasionally, some genuinely decent people at the firm; particularly west of the Mississippi.
