Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP

Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP, a renowned law firm established in the 1930s, was the result of the union of Samuel J. Cohen, a lawyer from Monticello, New York, and Edward C. Maguire, a prominent labor lawyer from New York City. In 1942, the firm achieved a landmark victory in the Supreme Court, where they secured the rights of truck drivers in the bakery industry to picket and protest for better working conditions (Bakery and Pastry Drivers and Helpers Local 802, I.B.T. v. Wohl, 315 U.S. 769). After Maguire was appointed as a magistrate judge by New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, Cohen continued to expand the practice. He was later joined by Henry Weiss, a Columbia Law graduate, who was released from his Navy duties after World War II. In 1966, Bruce Simon, a Harvard law graduate, joined the firm as its third partner. Today, with a team of over twenty-five attorneys, Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP continues to serve the interests of labor and working people as counsel to unions, union-affiliated benefit plans, individual employees, and plaintiffs in class-action employment lawsuits.
