The roots of Downey | McElroy date back to the 1940s and the West Palm Beach law firm Paty & Downey, co-founded by the late Florida Appellate Court Judge James C. Downey who was thereafter joined by his brother, Daniel Downey. In 1992, Daniel's son Edward joined Daniel in the practice and they created Downey & Downey, P.A as the successor firm. Daniel Downey passed away in 2014.
A NEW ERA.
In 2005, Attorney Lee McElroy joined Downey & Downey, P.A. and, after Daniel's death, Edward and Lee created Downey | McElroy in 2015.
THE PHILOSOPHY.
To fully appreciate Downey | McElroy today, understand our ethos. From the beginning, our attorneys have demonstrated their commitment to the community and Bar-related service. Our belief has always been that by serving both, we elevate the practice of law, our lawyers and law firm, and the clients we are privileged to serve.
Attorneys of the firm and its predecessor firms have served as Circuit and Appellate Court Judges, the Mayor of West Palm Beach, Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority and President of the Chamber of Commerce. Edward Downey is former President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and Chairman of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission. Lee McElroy is a director of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and Robert is Treasurer of its Young Lawyers Division. Edward and Lee are both extremely active in the Florida Bar Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section and Edward is active in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
