A graduate of Freeport High School, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Iowa College of Law. A veteran having served in the United States Army, past President of the Stephenson County Bar Association, and former Illinois Special Attorney General.
He now specializes in Estate Planning and Administration, Wills, Trusts, and Agricultural Real Estate and related matters. Malcolm is a member of the Stephenson County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
In Malcolm's free time, he enjoys gardening, spending time with his family, golfing and traveling. He is also a frequent contributor to GoodDayIllinois.com, a community blog sponsored by McPherson Law Offices.
Heather grew up in Freeport and graduated from Freeport High School. After graduating from Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin with a B.A. in Economics, and from Marquette University Law School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Heather returned to Freeport to practice law with her father, Malcolm C. McPherson. Malcolm and Heather continue to practice together.
Heather's practice is concentrated in estate planning, estate and trust administration, estate and trust litigation, guardianships, real estate, and elder law. She is licensed in Illinois as well as Wisconsin. Heather has been extremely active in the Illinois State Bar Association since 2004, and is a former chair of the Elder Law Section Council (2009 ? 2010). She currently sits on the Trusts & Estates Section of the Illinois State Bar Association. She has been involved in several legislative projects through the Illinois State Bar Association. Heather is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars for attorneys. She also has published many articles and has co-edited Southern Illinois Law Journal's "Survey of Illinois Law: Elder Law" for many years.
?Heather enjoys giving back to her community and is active in many organizations including Freeport Art Museum and FHN Foundation. She serves on several local boards and participates in volunteer projects. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, golfing, skiing and traveling.
Malcolm C. McPherson joined Philip L. Keister in the practice of law in Freeport in 1972. Philip started practicing in Freeport in 1940, left to serve in World War II, and returned in 1945 to continue his practice.
The firm was located in downtown Freeport where it continued after Philip's death in 1978, and until 1997, when a new building was constructed at its present location.
Heather McPherson joined the firm in 2001, to continue the long tradition of serving our clients in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. With a history of over 70 years, McPherson Law Offices is one of the oldest firms in the area.
