The legacy of Hillman, Brown & Darrow began in 1929 when the firm's founder, Noah A. Hillman, began the practice of law in Annapolis. Mr. Hillman was a distinguished member of the Anne Arundel County Bar, and served the City of Annapolis for 16 years as an Alderman and for a time as an interim Mayor.
His son Richard Hillman, joined the firm in the 1960's, as a result the firm became known as Hillman & Hillman. In 1976 Samuel J. Brown joined the practice. Over the years, many noted attorneys and judges practiced under the auspices of Mr. Hillman. In 1977 Noah Hillman passed away and the firm name changed to Hillman & Brown. Richard Hillman was elected Mayor of Annapolis in 1979, an office that required him to cease practicing at the firm.
In 1979 Hillman & Brown merged with the practice of Michael P. Darrow and became known as Hillman, Brown & Darrow. In 1982 Daniel J. Mellin left a Baltimore law firm to join Hillman, Brown & Darrow and became a partner. In 1984 M. Evelyn Spurgin accepted a position with the firm specializing in worker's compensation and personal injury law and has since been made a partner. Jonathan E. Pasterick was admitted as the fifth partner on January 1, 2014. Crighton A. Chase and Marietta B. Warren were as admitted as partners on January 1, 2019. Brian D. Lyman was admitted as a partner on January 1, 2021.
Hillman, Brown & Darrow recruited several fine associates to enhance the firm's legal services in various areas of practice. Current associates include Lauren A. Torggler, Sarah E. Brown, Carla M.
