Hornecker Cowling LLP traces its origins to 1924, when Yale Law graduate Frank Farrell ventured west and opened his law practice on Oakdale Avenue in Medford. In 1950, WWII veteran and newly-minted attorney Kent Blackhurst joined Farrell. Upon graduation from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1958, Greg Hornecker partnered with Farrell and Blackhurst. The firm grew again with the addition of Stanford graduate and former law professor John Hassen. At that point, the firm was known as Blackhurst Hornecker.
In 1999, Blackhurst Hornecker merged with Cowling & Heysell. Cowling & Heysell was the premier litigation firm in Southern Oregon, and the merger complemented Blackhurst Hornecker's robust transactional practice. The new firm's name was Hornecker, Cowling, Hassen, & Heysell, LLP. The firm name has since been shortened to Hornecker Cowling LLP.
As the largest private law firm in Southern Oregon, Hornecker Cowling LLP continues to provide individual and corporate clients with a wide range of legal services.
