Gravel & Shea, established in 1955 by Clarke Albert Gravel (1916-2002), has a long and distinguished history. Mr. Gravel was the Chittenden County State's Attorney until 1947, when he was appointed Judge of Probate Court for the District of Chittenden. In 1967, Charles T. Shea joined Mr. Gravel and the firm began to grow in size and reputation. Mr. Shea obtained his J.D. from Georgetown University and then an LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University before serving as an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service in Boston from 1956-1961. He then returned to Vermont and served as the Vermont Commissioner of Taxes until 1967. Today, Gravel & Shea provides its clients with legal services in a variety of disciplines, including commercial transactions, civil litigation, real estate, intellectual property, energy, land use and environmental regulation, estate planning, mergers and acquisitions, personal injury litigation, employment law, and family law.
