Founded in 1932 by Baltimore lawyers Clarence Miles and Seymour O'Brien who later merged with a firm founded by Enos Stockbridge, creating the modern-day Miles & Stockbridge, the firm has played a significant role in shaping businesses and communities along the East Coast.

An Information Security Leader

Our clients - and all the confidences they entrust to us - are our business. As such, our effort to maintain data security and privacy is a cornerstone of our matter management practices, as evidenced by the firm's certification and registration under the rigorous International Organization for Standardization ISO/IEC 27001 : 2013 standard, which specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving documented information security management systems.

As an early adopter of the program, Miles & Stockbridge underwent a rigorous audit that examined the full scope of the firm's information security program and its ability to secure its most important assets, including material entrusted to the firm by clients and others. In 2019, the firm's ISO/IEC 27001 : 2013 certification was renewed and expanded, keeping us as a leader in the legal profession.

From my time as a first-year associate to my first years as chair of Miles & Stockbridge, I have seen many changes in the practice of law, but one thing that has been wholly consistent is this firm's dedication to the craft of law, its clients and the communities in which its lawyers work and live.

Miles & Stockbridge has played a vital role in Baltimore's business and legal communities since the firm was founded in 1932. The firm's largest office is located in the city's vibrant center, anchored by the world-famous Inner Harbor and flanked by the homes of the major league Baltimore Orioles and National Football League Baltimore Ravens. The lawyers in Miles & Stockbridge's Baltimore office are active in virtually every practice the firm has to offer, but their dedication to clients and Baltimore is not limited to the practice of law. We are engaged as a responsible corporate citizen, taking our lead from one of the firm's founding partners, Clarence Miles, who was the first president of the Baltimore Orioles, one of the founders of the Greater Baltimore Committee and the first president of the Center Club. Today, the firm is an active member of the Downtown Partnership, the Greater Baltimore Committee and various other community organizations. Our colleagues play vital leadership roles in a wide variety of educational, cultural and social service organizations throughout the city of Baltimore, and the mid-Atlantic region beyond.
