Our History

McCurdy & Candler was formed in 1951 by the late Julius A. McCurdy and the late Scott Candler, Jr. In 1955 the firm name was changed to McCurdy, Candler and Harris with the addition of J. Robin Harris as a partner. The firm name reverted to McCurdy & Candler in 1974 when Mr. Harris became President and later Chairman of Decatur Federal Savings and Loan Association, a major, long-time client of the firm prior to its merger with First Union National Bank.

McCurdy & Candler, LLC conducts a general business practice with an emphasis in real estate, estate planning and probate. Aside from traditional services such as civil litigation, corporate law, and business transactions, the firm provides comprehensive real estate closing services in addition to other property matters. Our attorneys keep abreast of changes in the law through frequent attendance at continuing legal education events, and each attorney also attends estate, business and real estate related conferences to keep on top of current trends. Members of the firm are active participants and leaders in community, civic and governmental organizations.
