Schiff, Scheckman & White was formed as a limited liability partnership and began its practice on November 1, 2010. In the firm's formative days before the commencement of the firm it occurred to the partners that they had mutual interests involving service to the judiciary and to the members of the legal profession. Julie White had been a prosecutor in the Office of Disciplinary Counsel for 8 years and thereafter in private practice representing law firms and lawyers in discipline matters. For over 14 years Steve Scheckman was Special Counsel (Disciplinary Counsel) to the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana and then for two years was the Deputy Administrator of the New York Commission on Judicial Conduct. Leslie Schiff, a past-President of the Louisiana State Bar Association, had been representing lawyers and judges in legal and judicial ethics cases as well as various law firms generally.
The partners were of the opinion they were a "good fit" to offer their services to the judiciary and the legal profession in the areas of advice and counsel concerning legal and judicial ethics, the defense of lawyer and judicial discipline matters and the representation of applicants in bar admission proceedings. Our practice has generally been restricted to these matters.
Since the formation of the firm we have represented judges and lawyers before the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana and the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, respectively, as well as before the Louisiana Supreme Court.
