Devlin Parkinson is a boutique litigation firm and its members are trial lawyers by trade. We are not transactional attorneys.
Typically, clients turn to us for counsel when the gloves are about to come off, or already have. We are experienced negotiators and creative problem solvers, so we often are able to settle disputes before suit is ever filed. However, we do not always believe that compromise is preferable to trial.
Our attorneys have a track record of proven results in the courtroom and the firm has successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of legal scenarios.
The History of Devlin & Parkinson, P.A.
From the Beginning.
Devlin & Parkinson, P.A. was formed in January 2001 by John R. Devlin, Jr. and E. Brown Parkinson, Jr. The firm is the successor to John R. Devlin, Jr, P.A., which Mr. Devlin began in 1997.
Our Roots.
The firm's roots run deep in the Greenville community. Mr. Devlin and Mr. Parkinson's relationship dates back to the 1960s, when they played together on their church basketball and baseball teams. As roommates during their freshman year at Erskine College, they formed a friendship which now is in its fifth decade.
Education.
After graduating from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1981, Mr. Parkinson began his law practice in Greenville at what is now the Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd firm. Meanwhile, in 1983, Mr. Devlin finished USC law school and began practice at the Greenville firm of Love, Thornton, Arnold and Thomason. Both have practiced exclusively in litigation throughout their careers. In the mid-1980s, the two former roommates occasionally found themselves opposing each other in court.
A Firm is Born.
In January 1997, Devlin left the Love firm for the uncharted waters of solo practice. In the spring of 2000, he and Parkinson began the discussions which led to Parkinson leaving Haynsworth and, ultimately, to the formation of the current firm.
