Advice to law firm management: Afford everyone the same level of treatment. Be a little more transparent and invest in your young associates

Pros: The Firm has a wonderful reputation, especially in litigation. Everyone I work with is friendly.

Cons: Firm politics are quite clandestine. You don't truly know where you stand with people and the firm is not afraid to push people out. The work environment is very sink or swim. You're not going to have anyone sit down with you in real time and show you how to complete the tasks they are asking. Rules and Norms are not enforced equally. For instance, if a partner comes in at 2:00 p.m., nobody bats an eye but if an associate comes in at 9:45 a.m. it's treated as if it is the end of the world.

Advice to law firm management: Treat all of your employees the same.

Pros: Nice people, I guess

Cons: There's no transparency between what the partners are thinking and what they are communicating with the associates. Also, the expectations are not the same for everyone. If a partner comes in at noon, it's perfectly fine but if an associate comes in at 10:01, it's the end of the world.
