McNamara, Ney, Beatty, Slattery, Borges & Ambacher LLP was founded in 1954 by Daniel McNamara and William Channell in response to a need for a defense litigation firm in the burgeoning Contra Costa County.

William Channell was appointed by Governor Ronald Reagan to the Contra Costa County Superior Court in 1970, and he was subsequently elevated to the California Court of Appeal of the First Appellate District in 1983. Under the continued guidance of Daniel McNamara, the firm became one of the leading independent defense litigation practices in the region.

In 1988 the firm established a second office in Fairfield to better serve its clients and to meet an increasing demand for high-quality legal representation in Solano County and the expanding I-80 corridor and beyond.

The firm primarily serves Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Napa, Marin, Sonoma, Sacramento, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, but handles cases throughout California and in the federal courts. It enjoys longstanding relationships with many local, regional and national clients and insurance companies.
