Kermitt Waters

Kermitt Waters has been defending landowners in eminent domain and inverse condemnation cases in Nevada and across the United States for over 40 years. He has witnessed first hand to what lengths the government will go in order to take private property. Practicing exclusively in the areas of eminent domain and condemnation law, he has handled hundreds of eminent domain cases and he has tried over fifty condemnation trials in Nevada alone?several resulting in landmark opinions furthering the protection of landowners' rights.

Mr. Waters' appreciation for private property was ingrained at a young age. Born and raised in West Texas, the son of ranchers, he saw how important people's land was to their survival. His father, in addition to running the family ranch also served as County Sheriff, and was often called upon to protect private property.

Leaving the family ranch after high school graduation, he served his country in the National Guard while attending college. He earned both his Juris Doctorate and Bachelors of Law degrees from Texas Southern University.

In 1966, Mr. Waters moved to Nevada where he worked for the Legislative Counsel Bureau and the Nevada Attorney General. He then served in the Las Vegas City Attorney's office where he successfully fought the utility companies' demands for rate increases during the early 1970's until he went into private practice and devoted his career to defending landowners in government takings.

As the founder of the Law Offices of Kermitt L. Waters, he works tirelessly to bring about changes to eminent domain law in the Nevada Constitution, the Nevada Revised Statutes, and Nevada case law to further protect Nevada landowners' rights in eminent domain actions and to help insure that all private property owners are treated fairly and receive maximum just compensation for their properties.
