George Mason established the George Mason Law Firm, PSC in order to provide legal advice to companies and individuals regarding their contracts and strategies for the acquisition, development, and sale of oil, gas, coal, and coalbed methane (CBM). He earned both his B.A. and his J.D. from the University of Kentucky, in 1969 and 1978 respectively. A veteran of the United States Army, George did active duty tours with Special Forces and the 101st Airborne Division and retired as a colonel. He has been admitted to practice law in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, and he holds memberships in the Fayette County Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar, the West Virginia State Bar, and the Ohio State Bar.
Before he established his own firm, George served as the Assistant General Counsel for Massey Energy, one of the largest energy companies in the Southeast. There he managed general corporate legal activities, negotiating, drafting, and closing coal- and real estate-related transactions, acquisitions, and divestures. During this time, he also handled litigation and administration hearings. Prior to his time at Massey, George served as Vice President and General Counsel for Equitable Production Co. (now EQT) for fifteen years.
