Since 1984 solicitor defending doctors on behalf of the Medical Defence Union at a London firm before moving to Manchester in 1990. From 1995 headed the MDU's legal department in Manchester before establishing own firm in 2000.
He has since received instructions for c3000 practitioners in GMC/IOT/MPT cases involving criminal convictions, poor clinical practice, performance, dishonesty, misconduct, sexual misconduct and health.
He has represented many doctors at high profile inquiries including Bristol Royal Infirmary 1998-2000 acting for whistleblower, Alder Hey 2001, Toft Inquiry into intrathecal vincristine death QMC 2001, Shipman 2002, Cumbria/BNF 2008, Kennedy into Mr Paterson's NHS work 2013 and Verita private work 2014.
He has also held appointments as Medical Appeals Tribunal Chairman, Assistant Deputy Coroner and Deputy District Judge.
