At Thilges & Bernhardt, Attorneys at Law, LLC (f/k/a Short, Borth & Thilges), we pride ourselves on our long history of excellence and service to clients in the Kansas City metropolitan area, including Johnson County, Kansas, and Jackson County, Missouri, as well as surrounding areas.

The firm was founded in 1991 by J. Bradley Short and Ray L. Borth, now retired. Our firm now has four attorneys, all dedicated exclusively to family law with collectively over 40 years of family law experience. We believe in thorough, compassionate representation that strives to help clients resolve their matters productively. We understand the circumstances of each case are unique and may require a different approach. Our goal is to efficiently assist clients through the legal process while assessing financial and emotional impacts of decisions made.

We also do our best to preserve family relationships in one of the most stressful times in their lives.

Each lawyer in our firm has his or her own individual style and strengths, and we use a team approach, including the use of paralegals and professionals outside the firm. We are adept at handling cases ranging from an uncontested divorce to a complex asset divorce trial.

Our reputation is such that most of our clientele come to us through word of mouth or professional referrals. Our firm and several of our lawyers have received honors, including being listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, The Best of the Bar, and earning an AV Rating with Martindale-Hubbell*. We are also actively involved in our local bar association and have held positions in our local bar boards.

Our office is conveniently located in Corporate Woods, Overland Park, Kansas, right off of the interstate, close to I-435 and Highway 69.
