Take, for example, the pharmaceutical industry. Not only does misleading or incomplete marketing of name brand name drugs like Avandia lead to health complications or even death, it also places a burden on states by ratcheting up Medicare and Medicaid expenses for drug-related complications. Baron & Budd took on the challenge of holding Avandia manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline accountable by representing thousands of individual Avandia users in a confidential settlement and by representing the States of Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Carolina, Utah and West Virginia in a combined $177 million settlement.

Other Baron & Budd cases have led to wide-sweeping changes, impacting virtually every consumer. Such is the case with bank overdraft fee litigation. As part of a class action, Baron & Budd helped negotiate several significant settlements to repay bank clients for a portion of the absurdly high fees they were charged as a result of the banks' highly profitable practice of reordering debit card expenditures from high to low. The settlement also forced a change in banking practices.

Or take water contamination. In 2010 Scott Summy, head of Baron & Budd's Environmental Litigation Group, was one of four lawyers nationally chosen to serve both on the Plaintiffs' Executive Committee for the Gulf Oil Spill Multi-District Litigation (MDL) and as a member of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee (PSC).

And of course there's the iconic and decades long Trichloroethylene (TCE) water pollution case. Waged over 21 years, and settled in 2006, this case helped define Arizona laws on pollution and is widely considered among the most important pieces of litigation involving personal injuries caused by water pollution.
