We are thoroughly prepared for hearings and trials. We practice open, full, and timely communication on all issues of a client's case and all questions that arise.
Compassion:
Whether seeking to draw up a Last Will and Testament, obtain a divorce, create a new business entity, change a parenting time plan, appeal a Social Security Disability denial, prepare a pre-nuptial agreement, change a child's domicile, or purchase real estate, we understand that going to a lawyer often causes clients anxiety and uncertainty. Our sterling staff takes each client's goals and needs to heart and we will work tenaciously to achieve results! We work to negotiate settlements and resolve problems whenever possible without going to court, which, in return, saves our clients time, money, and stress. If courtroom appearances are required, please rest assured that we have experience and will stand by your side throughout the entire process.

Firm History:
Sterling Law first opened its doors in March 2001 in a historic clapboard building that originally housed one of Empire Michigan's general stores. Previously, Lea Ann Sterling practiced law for two decades in Columbus, Ohio, focusing her work on civil rights, family law, and social justice. After moving with her family to Empire, she established Sterling Law initially in partnership with renowned civil rights attorney, Dean Robb. Mr. Robb subsequently moved his primary office to his hometown of Suttons Bay and remained a mentor to Sterling Law for many years until his passing in 2018.
Sterling Law has since grown to include several attorneys; a legal assistant; a bookkeeper; and an office manager. Geographically, the firm's caseload was initially drawn throughout Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Benzie, and Wexford counties. However, demand has expanded services throughout much of the Northern Michigan Region above and below the bridge.
The main office is located on Grand Traverse Bay in Traverse City and gives clients a warm, welcoming, comfortable setting in which to meet and collaborate with the very friendly and caring staff. Clients will find the same warm and friendly welcome at the northeast Michigan office in downtown Gaylord.
Sterling Law has experience in cases involving the specialized areas of family law, estate planning, probate, Social Security disability, bankruptcy, real estate, and business, and it is one of the few legal practices in northern Michigan handling immigration and citizenship cases. The firm has made a lifetime commitment to justice. Our constant, primary goal is to provide sterling services and to achieve sterling results for our clients.
