Suhrheinrich, both experienced litigators, particularly in malpractice and products liability cases. The firm's growth has been attributed to strong client partnerships, leadership in the practice of law, and successful business practices, rather than mergers and acquisitions. The firm began as a medical malpractice defense firm but has since expanded to provide a full range of legal services, including government regulation and litigation, estate planning, corporate, criminal investigations and prosecutions, commercial real estate, commercial litigation, and employment law.

In 2005, the Kitch firm made a strategic decision to remain committed to the city of Detroit, relocating its headquarters to a new location within the One Woodward building, designed by Minoru Yamasaki, a world-renowned architect whose firm remains based in Michigan. The firm has been successful in many court decisions with significant impacts on Michigan law and business in areas such as comparative negligence, tort reform, governmental immunity, successor liability, reliability of expert testimony, product liability, and employment law.

The Kitch firm has been selected as National Trial Coordinating Counsel for two national insurance companies and one national healthcare system for birth trauma cases, with specialty teams focused exclusively on the defense of these high exposure cases. The firm has handled over 4,000 cases since the specialization began in the '80s. The firm has received numerous awards and recognition for its commitment to diversity, including the highest percentage of women attorneys (41%) and the highest percentage of women partners (27%) among the top 20 southeastern Michigan firms in 2006.

Co-founder Richard Kitch continues to be active in the firm, marking his 50th year in the practice of law in 2005. He was born and raised in Detroit and has practiced law in the city for his entire career.
