We are friendly and approachable with proven experience in all mainstream fields of law and a long history of serving the communities of Hull and East Yorkshire. With a head office in Hull's Old Town, we have opened branches in Beverley, Bridlington and Driffield over the last few years to meet strong demand for our services from existing and new customers in our home region and further afield. Our 130-strong team comprises expert solicitors and skilled support staff, working together to obtain the best outcomes. We have a national, as well as a local profile, and director and senior solicitor Bill Waddington, as immediate past chair of the Criminal Lawyers' Association, led the countrywide campaign against legal aid cuts. Our in-house IT expertise keeps us fully abreast of new technology, bringing increased efficiency for our customers and enabling us to take the business forward. Our first client came through the doors in 1890, the same year as the Forth Bridge opened, and as with those fabled painters, the job has been non-stop ever since.
What we do
Many of life's challenges, such as wills and probate, house purchase, family issues and personal injury, are our bread and butter legal work. As a long-established and respected local firm, we will guide you through these potential minefields with sensitivity and scrupulous attention to detail, if possible trying to resolve problems without conflict. We are the people to ask about the day-to-day legal matters. We can help you in nine core fields of law, covering almost every eventuality. It is the nature of law that you never quite know what's around the corner and our solicitors are always ready to take on the big headline challenges, sometimes winning against the odds. Successes include ?multimillion medical negligence claims and reuniting a mother with her three children who had been abducted to Afghanistan.
Our team
Our starting point is that clients deserve the best possible advice and representation. From domestic matters to business deals, defence advocacy to medical negligence and personal injury, you will find us easy to talk to and absolutely clear about finding the way forward for you. We bring the brightest minds into the practice, whether experienced or new entrants, and our bespoke trainee solicitor programme provides a route to successful careers for newly qualified law graduates who often move on to senior positions.
Our story
We have opened three branches outside Hull during the recent years with the aim of expanding our geographical area and getting close to our existing East Riding client base. Williamsons merged with Driffield solicitors Iveson Atkin in 2006. In 2012 we strengthened our position in Bridlington by taking over the office and staff of Stuart Smith & Burnett when they closed down and did the same with the Davis Davidson offices in Beverley in 2016. In an administrative change, we ceased being a partnership in 2010 and became a limited company. Our beginnings go back to Hull solicitors George Samuel Williamson and Robert Henry Winter coming together in 1890 to form their partnership. During the previous year, Mr Winter had finished his term as president of Hull Incorporated Law Society and the list of his fellow presidents of that era include many other familiar names still practising in the region today. We expanded by organic growth and amalgamations, and firms such as Stephenson & Hepton, Edward Dales and Baxter, Richard Witty, Lowson and Bullock, Moxon & Co, Bird & Clarke and Andrew M Turner & Co are among those that become part of Williamsons. Throughout this long history, we have continued to provide a comprehensive legal service to private and commercial clients.
