The firm is the result of a merger of two premier Lancaster attorney offices. These were Deffenbaugh & Miller, founded in 1902 by J.W. Deffenbaugh, and Dagger, Johnston, Ogilvie, Charles & Hampson, founded by William C. Dagger, in 1946. In 2016 we began to move from the use of our full firm name, Dagger Johnston Miller Ogilvie & Hampson, LLP to the more recognizable law firm name of Dagger Law. That change in branding reflects our acknowledgement that this firm is built on something deep and significant, over 115 years of practice, but that moving forward we are more than individual attorneys and partners. The Dagger Law brand represents a team of attorneys and staff, with a single purpose; to provide our clients local, trusted, and experienced legal representation. Our attorneys, and staff, work together as a single coherent unit to represent our clients, and every attorney is capable of calling upon our combined strengths to get the best possible outcomes for an individual legal case.

Our law firm, lawyers, and staff have strong roots in Lancaster and throughout Fairfield County.
After receiving their Juris Doctorates from prestigious law schools, many of our attorneys decided to return to the area to help the Lancaster community grow economically as well as culturally. What happens to our clients impacts us as neighbors and as part of a community. We strive to bring a local perspective to everything that we do. Local perspectives allow us to leverage strong working relationships with judges, city administrative offices, prosecutors, and opposing counsel from other local firms. We recognize that there are times when visiting an attorney in Lancaster isn't convenient. In 2019 Dagger Law successfully established a second office in the City of Canal Winchester to further serve the growing communities around us.
Since the firm's founding, Dagger, Johnston, Miller, Ogilvie & Hampson has adapted to the changing needs of its clients while making a strategic shift from Lancaster attorneys to a regionally recognized law firm. Though Dagger Law attorneys predominantly practice in the communities in which they live and raise their families, we recognize that there are strong similarities, in both character and values, that we share with those communities nearby. It is with that recognition that we proudly extend our focus and legal practice to the surrounding areas in Southeast and Central Ohio.
