Smith Phillips is a nationally recognized civil litigation and full-service law firm representing individuals, businesses and governmental entities throughout Mississippi. Smith Phillips was founded by Briggs Smith and Richard Phillips in Batesville, Mississippi in 1974. Since its inception Smith Phillips has provided a full range of legal services. In 1993, the firm merged with Wilroy, Scott and Rutherford, an established DeSoto County, Mississippi firm that traces its roots to the early 1900's. The firm expanded further in 2006 when it merged with the Hernando, Mississippi, firm of Nowak and Neyman. The resulting firm of Smith Phillips Mitchell Scott & Nowak, LLP now consists of eight attorneys and a large staff of lay personnel operating from offices in Batesville and Hernando, Mississippi.

Smith Phillips handles a full range of legal services including business and individual litigation, nationwide class actions, insurance litigation, eminent domain and land use litigation, serious personal injury litigation (Plaintiffs and Defendants), and other civil litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country. The firm also represents state and national corporate clients in their general corporate business, real estate and other legal matters.

In addition to individual and corporate clients, Smith Phillips also represents a number of governmental entities, including the City of Batesville, Mississippi and DeSoto County, Mississippi. The firm is representing, with increasing frequency, governmental entities as Plaintiffs in litigation arising from the numerous matters facing cities, counties and state governmental bodies today.
