Our Story:
We are a boutique law firm that grew out of a practice founded by S. Stephen Baker in New York circa 1939. As a family aspires to pass on values of respect, honesty and protection, so too has S. Stephen Baker's legacy been passed down to the second generation, his son ? Stephen L. "Steve" Baker. In 1964, Steve Baker joined his father's practice and was subsequently admitted to the bar in both New York and New Jersey in 1969 and 1970, respectively. Coincidentally, both father and son attended St. John's University and set legal precedents in their own right, with over 100 leading cases which are still cited by courts, the USPTO and treatises.
In 1987, abiding with and strengthening our family culture, Steve's brother-in-law John M. "Jack" Rannells joined the firm, bringing with him valuable knowledge in copyrights and entertainment law. Over the past several decades, growth flourished taking Steve's two-person practice to a team of seventeen employees. Today, Baker and Rannells, P.A. is comprised of a family culture that not only represents us on a daily basis but embodies our historical philosophy of strong family values, as we represent you, our client.
