Zachary Hiller, Business Attorney and Houston Intellectual Property Attorney
Houston Business & Intellectual Property Attorney Zachary Hiller
Mr. Hiller's practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property and commercial transactions. As a Houston trademark attorney, he has extensive experience in assisting corporations and start-up businesses in developing intellectual property protection and commercialization strategy. A cornerstone of Mr. Hiller's practice is litigation avoidance. He prepares as if every issue will be taken to a jury. This allows him to strategically position his clients for potential lawsuits. As a result, Mr. Hiller has become known for solving disputes and obtaining advantageous settlements without ever having to step into a courthouse. However, when litigation can not be avoided, you will have the advantage of Mr. Hiller's experience in successfully representing clients in intellectual property disputes.
Before law school, Mr. Hiller attended Washington University in St. Louis where he earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and played for both the Washington University football and rugby teams. While attending Houston College of Law, Mr. Hiller clerked as a judicial intern for both the Honorable Wesley Steen in the Southern District of Texas and the late Honorable Fred Edwards of the 9th District Court in Montgomery County, Texas. By working under these two Judges, Mr. Hiller was granted invaluable insight into the minds of judges and of the inner workings of the judicial system as a whole.
While still in law school, Mr. Hiller was awarded the Spring 2009 Taylor Writing Award. His article, "The Promise and Peril of TRIPs", was selected for publication in Currents: International Trade Law Journal, for which he served as both Notes and Articles Editor for two years. The article analyzes the effects of the World Trade Organization's Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs). Specifically, this pertains to developing countries and their relationships with industrial nations, focusing on Latin America and the United States. Mr. Hiller was also awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for excellent achievement in the study of Intellectual Property Litigation in the Spring of 2010.
In his spare time, Mr. Hiller enjoys competing in professional barbecue competitions and his team has won a number of awards at high stakes competitions such as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World's Championship Bar-B-Que. When he is not manning a pit, Mr. Hiller can often be found on the pitch playing rugby for the Houston United Rugby Team.
