Brent R. Cole

Brent is a lifelong Alaskan who grew up in Fairbanks and graduated from Lathrop High School in 1976. After high school, Mr. Cole worked in the Laborers Union Local 942 to put himself through college and law school. He attended Dartmouth College where he graduated in 1981 with a bachelors degree in Political Science. After college, Mr. Cole attended McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California. While still at McGeorge, he worked in the summer of 1983 for Senator Ted Stevens as an Assistant Legislative Aide in Washington, D.C. After law school, Mr. Cole moved to Anchorage and clerked for one year with Seaborne J. Buckalew, a Superior Court Judge. He has passed both the California and Alaska Bar and has been licensed to practice in Alaska since 1986.

After working as a law clerk, Mr. Cole began work with the Anchorage District Attorney's office in 1986. From 1986 to 1991, Mr. Cole worked as a prosecutor handling all types of criminal cases from misdemeanors to felonies, in Anchorage and around the State of Alaska. He spent time handling the criminal calendar in Cordova and supervising prosecution of fish and wildlife cases around south central Alaska. Ultimately he prosecuted Joseph Hazelwood for his role in the grounding of the Exxon Valdez.

In 1991, Mr. Cole left the Anchorage District Attorney's office and went to work with the Law Firm of Brena & McLaughlin, P.C. working on utility and oil and gas matters. Mr. Cole became a partner at the firm and remained there until 1994. In 1994, Mr. Cole joined Erin Marston, another lifelong Alaskan, and formed the firm Marston & Cole, P.C. Mr. Marston and Mr. Cole worked together for 18 years handling a wide variety of civil and criminal matters. Their practice included insurance defense, aviation law, corporate and small business transactions, and civil litigation. Their clients have included oil companies, oil field supply companies, native corporations, FAR 135 operators across the state, and guides and outfitters.

In 2012, Mr. Marston left the firm to become a Superior Court Judge here in Anchorage. Mr. Cole then transitioned into the Law Firm of Brent R. Cole, P.C. Mr. Cole is presently an AOPA volunteer for Anchorage International Airport and a board member of the Alaska Aviation Museum. He is a life member of Safari Club International and volunteers his services on its Legal Task Force Panel.

When he is not working to put his children through college, he flies his own Cessna 185 and flies as often as his wife and pocket book allow.
