Attorney Daniel Hilf's areas of specialization for criminal defense include:
Criminal Traffic. With some traffic tickets, an appearance in court is unavoidable. Drunk Driving (DUI, DWI, OUI, OWI), Driving While License Suspended (DWLS), Reckless Driving, Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Report an Accident, and Fleeing and Eluding Police are a few examples of criminal traffic offenses that will eventually bring you before a Judge. Any criminal traffic offense can lead to incarceration, probation with conditions, and fines. Besides these sanctions, there are often "hidden costs" with some traffic tickets such as driver's license sanctions, higher insurance rates, points, and the likelihood that police will not give you a "break" the next time you are stopped. Criminal traffic offenses are treated seriously by Court, and the help of an experienced criminal traffic lawyer is required.
Domestic Violence. One of the most contentious of cases is domestic violence. Many domestic violence cases stem from false allegations arising from child custody issues, jealously, pettiness, intoxication, mental health issues, and/or anger. It is common for an alleged victim of spousal abuse or a couple's dispute to want the case dismissed shortly after the police become involved, but the government often has an agenda and will still prosecute the case no matter what. A conviction for domestic violence can lead to incarceration, probation, anger management, fines and costs, no contact orders, immigration issues, and the inability to live life according to your own terms. A sound legal strategy from a lawyer that is in your corner is essential to get your life back on track.
Drug Offenses. Use, possession, possession with intent to deliver, and the manufacture of drugs and marijuana all are part of the government's war on drugs. Do not be a casualty of the drug war, because the consequences of a drug conviction may include prison, strict probation/parole, financial costs, driver's license issues, immigration issues, damage to relationships, and loss of career ambitions. Thorough and comprehensive legal representation is a must. Your lawyer's job is to protect your rights and to attempt to protect your future. Do not trust your future with a lawyer that lacks drug defense experience.
Probation Violation. Violation of probation, if proven, places you at the mercy of the Judge. The range of possible sanctions available to your Judge include incarceration, added conditions of probation, a longer probationary term, the loss of a status that suppressed your conviction (HYTA, 7411, 769.4a, etc.). The Judge can also elect to do nothing, and continue your probation. If you did not violate your probation, you need a skilled litigation attorney to defend the allegation. If you did violate your probation, you will need help from a lawyer to try and convince the Judge to exercise mercy and leniency toward you.
Retail Fraud. Shoplifting is prosecuted as a misdemeanor or felony, depending upon the factual allegations and the accused person's prior record. Retail theft in some cases is both impulsive and petty, however the potential consequences may last a lifetime. With a retail fraud conviction, finding employment may prove difficult because the employer may not want to take a chance on a job candidate with a theft record. It may damage your career or career ambitions, if your work requires licensing or a security clearance. It may impact your reputation in the community and your self esteem. An accusation of shoplifting does not make you a bad person, and you need a lawyer who will do everything in his power to try and prevent a theft conviction from appearing on your record to represent you.
Sex Offenses. A sex offense conviction is often the most serious possible conviction with the highest penalties, depending upon the alleged conduct. Sex offender registration goes hand in hand with many sex offense convictions, which is a modern day scarlet letter that impacts where and how you live your life. With sex offenses, false accusations are rampant. The reasons behind a false allegation are numerous, and must be explored and exposed to effectively defend the case. It is important that your rights are fully protected. Attorney Daniel Hilf defends all sex and sex related offenses including Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC), Indecent Exposure, Child Sexually Abusive Material (CSAM), Child Pornography, Internet Crimes, Child Molestation, Statutory Rape, Lewd Conduct, Soliciting Sex, and Prostitution.
Other Criminal Practice Areas. State or Federal charge? Misdemeanor or Felony? Capital Offense or Petty Offense? Ordinance violation? Ticket? Attorney Daniel Hilf has over 20 years of criminal defense experience. He is trial tested, respected, and prepared to defend you.
