Our firm's founder, Stephen J. Dunn, was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While a student at Aquinas College, he worked as a tax intern at BDO (then Seidman & Seidman) in Grand Rapids. Upon earning his B.S.B.A. in Accounting from Aquinas in 1978, Mr. Dunn joined the audit staff of EY (then Ernst & Ernst) in Grand Rapids. After three years at EY, he matriculated at Notre Dame School. He was an Associate Editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. In 1985 Mr. Dunn earned his J.D. from Notre Dame, and became a member of the State Bar of Michigan. In 1991 he earned an LL.M. from Washington University School of Law, St. Louis Missouri. Mr. Dunn is admitted to practice in many Federal courts, including the United States Tax Court, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Third, Sixth, Eighth, and Federal Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. He has a Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating of AV (preeminent).
Mr. Dunn is a member of the American Bar Association, Taxation Section and Section of Real Property, Trust, and Estate Law. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Sections of Tax Law and Probate and Estate Law. He is a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, International Tax Task Force. He has co-presented continuing professional education programs for the American Bar Association, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and Strafford Publications. He has serves as an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University College of Law.
Mr. Dunn writes and speaks extensively on his practice areas. He has written a Thomson Reuters treatise, Foreign Accounts Compliance. He writes a blog, Personal Financial Counsel. He blogs for Newsmax, and has blogged for Forbes.
Mr. Dunn and his wife have three children and, at last count, 12 grandchildren. Mr. Dunn holds leadership positions in the Detroit-Oakland Serra Club and in Serra Club International. He is a lector and eucharistic minister in his parish.
