Ashley graduated from WVU College of Law with a juris doctorate degree in 1981. She was a summa cum laude graduate of Glenville State College in 1978, with a B.A. degree in English. From 1986 through 1999, she served as Family Law Master for Roane, Calhoun and Jackson Counties, presiding over divorce, custody, child support, and other family matters. She is a former member of the Judicial Investigations Commission and has served on several select committees of the State Supreme Court.
