American Patent & Trademark Law Center

American Patent & Trademark Law Center is a professional association of independent registered patent attorneys that specializes in patent, trademark, copyright and related business or government contract matters including licensing. We have both in house counsel and independent counsel who we can engage for clients in need of expertise in specific patent and trademark areas.

With our main offices located in San Diego, California and a satellite office in Bend, Oregon, we have agents and associates throughout the world, including China and Russia, enabling our team of attorneys to handle all types of domestic and international filing needs for our clients.

Our office is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Donn K. Harms ? Managing Attorney
Donn K. Harms is a Registered Patent Attorney also handling business and corporate law matters since 1988, with heavy emphasis on trademarks, copyrights, patents, and licensing matters. Mr. Harms is certified by the San Diego County Bar Association for trademarks, and is a former member of the American Bar Association Committee on Trademark Law for recommendations to the U.S. Congress.

Prior to practicing law, Mr. Harms owned and operated a small business with 50 employees for over 15 years. He has a vast amount of practical experience in small business operation.

Mr. Harms received his undergraduate degree from Western State University and Juris Doctor degree from Thomas Jefferson University and School of Law. He has a general engineering degree with an emphasis on mechanical and software engineering. He is admitted to the California State Bar, the United States Patent Bar, the US Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Laura Friedrichsen ? Paralegal/ Office Administrator
Laura Friedrichsen offers legal assistant support to our patent attorneys and agents. Ms. Friedrichsen joined the firm in 2002 as a Trademark Assistant and is well-versed in all matters relating to domestic and foreign patent and trademark filings and prosecution. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University.

Noah Castro ? Legal Assistant
Noah Castro joined the firm in 2015, and has gained over 5 years of experience assisting with trademark matters. He earned his Bachelor of Science from San Francisco State University in 2020, and is beginning his law school journey by taking the LSAT in March of 2022.
