A law firm seeks an experienced Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property practice group in Los Angeles, CA, with the option to work remotely or in a hybrid arrangement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent prosecution and a solid understanding of various industries, particularly in mechanical, biomedical, and medical device technologies.

Duties:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications for clients in a variety of technical fields.
  • Conduct comprehensive patent searches and provide patentability analyses.
  • Manage patent portfolios, offering clients strategic guidance on IP protection and development.
  • Respond to office actions and maintain communication with the USPTO throughout the prosecution process.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to ensure alignment between legal strategies and clients’ business objectives.
  • Offer expert technical advice on matters related to mechanical, biomedical, and medical device patents.

Requirements:

  • At least 4 years of experience as a Patent Agent with a focus on patent prosecution.
  • Solid expertise in mechanical, biomedical, or medical device patent law is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of USPTO filing requirements and patent laws.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for clients and colleagues.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and manage time effectively.

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
  • A Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant discipline is a plus.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • In-depth experience with patent drafting, filing, and prosecution.
  • Strong technical background in mechanical, biomedical, or medical device industries.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
