A law firm seeks a dedicated Litigation Associate Attorney to support its practice in representing local governments and taxing jurisdictions. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in complex civil litigation, municipal law counseling, and public service. Duties

  • Handle all aspects of complex civil litigation, including:
    • Investigating facts and conducting legal research.
    • Drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery documents.
    • Managing depositions and trial preparations.
    • Representing clients in court proceedings, including motions, pre-trial activities, and trials.
  • Provide legal advice and draft documents related to municipal law matters.
  • Attend government meetings, including evening sessions, to advise clients.
  • Analyze legal issues, conduct research, and offer opinions on complex legal matters.
  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings, arbitration, mediation, and trial settings.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on strategy and client representation.
  • Prepare reports for the management team on legal activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six years of civil litigation experience, including trial experience as first or second chair.
  • Expertise in municipal operations, condemnation, and related legal fields.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently while maintaining high-quality work.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with public officials and community stakeholders.
  • Proven situational awareness and ability to analyze and resolve legal issues promptly.

Education

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Missouri (Federal and Kansas licenses are a plus).
  • Valid driver’s license.

Skills

  • Proficient in civil and administrative law principles, judicial procedures, and evidence rules.
  • Strong legal research and writing capabilities.
