A law firm seeks an experienced Associate to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group, focusing on intellectual property litigation. This role provides an exciting opportunity to engage in high-stakes IP litigation, collaborating with a dynamic team to handle complex legal challenges. The position is based in Houston, TX, and offers the chance to work with innovative technologies and sophisticated clients.

Duties:

  • Manage and lead IP litigation cases, from pre-trial motions to case strategy and resolution.
  • Draft and argue motions, handle depositions, and coordinate with expert witnesses.
  • Oversee case management, ensuring that all deadlines and procedural requirements are met.
  • Engage in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings or participate in trial settings when necessary.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates and paralegals in casework and strategy development.
  • Provide clients with clear, actionable advice on intellectual property matters, helping guide case tactics.
  • Draft key legal documents, including briefs, motions, and discovery requests.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in intellectual property litigation.
  • Proven ability to manage cases independently, with experience in briefing, motion practice, and taking depositions.
  • Familiarity with PTAB proceedings and trial litigation is highly beneficial.
  • Engineering degree and USPTO admission are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and case management abilities.
  • Must be licensed to practice law or eligible to become licensed in Texas.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A degree in engineering or a related technical field is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar in Texas or the ability to become licensed in Texas promptly.
  • USPTO admission is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex cases simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in legal writing and technical analysis.
  • Capacity to lead teams and guide junior associates and paralegals.
  • Familiarity with patent law, IP litigation tools, and related legal practices.
