Job Overview: A law firm located in Chicago, IL, is seeking a highly qualified Patent Agent/Technical Advisor to join their team. This role involves conducting patent-related research and providing technical expertise in the fields of electrical engineering and computer science. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in assisting patent attorneys in various aspects of patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation.

Job Details:

Duties:

  • Conduct prior art database searches to support patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Analyze patent documents, scientific papers, and related materials to assist patent attorneys in various legal matters.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
  • Provide advice and insights to lawyers on technology issues, preparing them for depositions and related legal proceedings.

Requirements:

  • Substantive industry experience and a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Exceptional technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Broad scientific knowledge in the fields of electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Strong expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning is highly preferred.
  • Initiative, fast learning ability, and effective teamwork skills.
  • Eligibility to sit for the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) registration exam and meet the requirements for registration as a patent agent.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field (required).
  • Advanced degrees in these fields (preferred).

Certifications:

  • Eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration exam (required).

Skills:

  • Prior art search and analysis.
  • Patent drafting and prosecution.
