Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a senior-level associate or counsel with 6+ years of experience in affordable housing law to join a nationally recognized Affordable Housing team. This team works with for-profit and nonprofit developers, investors, and governmental entities to develop, acquire, construct, finance, operate, and preserve housing across the country, including Texas. The role requires a candidate with strong experience in affordable housing transactions, including finance, development, and incentives, as well as the ability to manage projects, negotiate transactions, and work directly with clients.

Location:

  • Houston, TX

Duties:

  • Lead all aspects of affordable housing development and finance transactions, including structuring, drafting, and negotiating transaction documents.

  • Handle due diligence, project management, and direct interactions with clients and opposing parties.

  • Work closely with clients to provide legal advice and handle complex transactions.

  • Negotiate business and legal issues within affordable housing projects.

  • Collaborate with other team members to manage the progress of ongoing transactions.

  • Maintain clear and concise communication (both oral and written) with clients, team members, and opposing parties.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of law firm experience focused on affordable housing transactions, including finance, development, and incentives.

  • Ability to manage affordable housing projects from initial structuring through to final transaction, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating documents.

  • Experience in handling various transaction documents and conducting due diligence.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while working under pressure.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to succeed in a collaborative team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Strong leadership and client-facing experience, including the ability to work with sophisticated and demanding clients.

Education:

  • J.D. from a nationally recognized and accredited law school.

  • Strong academic record.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to the State Bar in the relevant jurisdiction (Texas, Ohio, or Florida depending on location).

Skills:

  • Expertise in affordable housing law, finance, development, and incentives.

  • Ability to lead projects and negotiate complex transactions.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
