A law firm in Wilmington, DE is seeking an accomplished Intellectual Property Associate Attorney with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field. The role entails drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO and global patent offices, along with providing litigation support and risk management expertise.

 

Duties:

  • Draft patent applications and manage the prosecution process before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices.
  • Conduct patentability searches, analyze prior art, and prepare opinions.
  • Provide strategic intellectual property advice and counsel to clients.
  • Assist in intellectual property litigation, including pre-litigation activities and dispute resolution.
  • Manage and maintain intellectual property portfolios for clients.


Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related scientific field.
  • Admission to practice law in Delaware or eligible for admission by waiver.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO is mandatory.
  • 4-8 years of experience in patent prosecution, specializing in Organic Chemistry or related fields.

 

Education:

Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related scientific field.

 

Certifications (Preferred):

Certification in Intellectual Property Law.

 

Skills:

  • Proficiency in drafting patent applications and responding to office actions.
  • In-depth knowledge of patent prosecution procedures and strategies.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive patent searches and analyses.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
