Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking an Associate Patent Attorney to join their Intellectual Property Group. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex and diverse patent-related matters, including drafting and prosecuting applications and providing patentability, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions. The role also involves conducting freedom-to-operate and landscape analysis and supporting IP-related litigation and transactional practices.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications relevant to clients' global patent and IP strategies
• Conduct freedom-to-operate and landscape analysis
• Prepare patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement opinions
• Support IP-related litigation and transactional practices within the firm’s broader legal services
• Collaborate with other legal teams to ensure comprehensive client service
• Maintain and develop client relationships

Requirements:

• 1-4 years of experience in patent law
• Technical background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Admission to the Michigan Bar
• Admission to the U.S. Patent Bar
• Strong academic credentials

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• U.S. Patent Bar certification
• Admission to the Michigan Bar
