Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent to join their team in Dallas, TX. The ideal candidate will work closely with clients to secure patent protection and build intellectual property portfolios, focusing on innovative technologies. This role involves drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications, supporting due diligence, and managing patent-related documentation and deadlines. The successful candidate will have a strong background in patent prosecution, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with clients on innovative technologies to procure patent protection and build IP portfolios.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications on behalf of clients.
  • Provide support for due diligence, landscape analysis, freedom-to-operate analysis, and validity assessment in collaboration with industry partners.
  • Draft responses to patent application rejections from the USPTO and other international Patent Offices.
  • Focus primarily on patent filings and support patent litigation as needed.
  • Interact professionally with internal and external clients at all levels.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a global professional team.
  • Manage and pay close attention to details in projects and filings.
  • Establish and maintain practices, procedures, and technology for coordinating patent-related information, filings, and deadlines.
  • Demonstrate advanced writing skills, including researching and clearly communicating ideas.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with lawyers, firm management, staff, and clients through various channels.
  • Exhibit strong project management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects, meeting deadlines while working well under pressure.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities, workflow, and assignments.
  • Work flexible hours as needed, including evenings or weekends.
  • Provide diplomatic responses, pushback, or request additional information as necessary.
  • Utilize creativity, good judgment, and decision-making skills.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Industry experience or equivalent in Software Development/Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Semiconductor Manufacturing & Packaging is strongly preferred.
  • Registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
