Job Overview
A law firm seeks a highly motivated Associate Attorney to join its team in Dallas, Texas. This position is ideal for candidates with experience in oil and gas, energy law, and transactional matters. The role involves reviewing title documents, drafting legal opinions and agreements, and conducting legal research. The firm values candidates who are process-driven, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to the development of the practice. Previous experience with oil and gas industry-related legal work is preferred but not required. The firm fosters a collaborative environment where attorneys can grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to client projects.

Duties

  • Review title documents and abstracts to determine mineral and surface ownership.
  • Draft title opinions, including acquisition due diligence opinions.
  • Analyze various agreements, such as oil and gas leases, surface use agreements, pipeline right-of-way agreements, and joint operating agreements.
  • Draft conveyancing documents including Mineral Deeds, Assignments of Oil and Gas Leases, and Stipulations of Interest.
  • Conduct legal research on relevant industry regulations, laws, and legal articles.
  • Assist senior attorneys with additional legal projects as necessary.
  • Participate in firm leadership initiatives, such as mentoring and training programs for associates.
  • Contribute to business development by assisting with blog content creation and client outreach.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar license in Texas or New Mexico.
  • 2-5 years of professional experience, preferably in the oil and gas or energy sector.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a large caseload independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Process-oriented with a keen ability to navigate complex legal documentation and transactions.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active bar membership in Texas or New Mexico.

Skills

  • Knowledge of oil and gas law, including title examination and industry regulations.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing oil and gas contracts, leases, and related documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
