Job Title: Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney
Job Location: Medfield, MA

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm located in Medfield, MA is seeking a Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney to join its innovative and forward-thinking Estate Planning and Administration teams. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment, focusing on probate and trust administration, estate planning, and taxation issues. The ideal candidate will be involved in various stages of trust administration, client communication, document preparation, and working with client advisors.

Duties:

  • Draft and interpret trust documents, including amendments, resignations, and appointments
  • Oversee the preparation of probate inventories, court filings, and probate accountings
  • Communicate with beneficiaries regarding trust distributions
  • Assist in administering trusts at various stages of the process
  • Prepare a variety of estate planning documents using WealthDocx software
  • Meet with clients in an estate planning support program to review and refine their plans
  • Prepare gift tax and estate tax returns
  • Assist tax professionals in preparing fiduciary income tax returns
  • Assist with asset retitling, identifying provisions, and executing principal payments
  • Manage real estate within estate or trust-owned properties
  • Work collaboratively with financial planners, accountants, and other advisors
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to paralegals and legal assistants
  • Maintain an annual billable hour target of 1,500 hours

Requirements:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in probate and trust administration
  • Experience managing a team or interest in leadership
  • Licensed to practice law in Massachusetts (additional state licenses are a plus)
  • Comprehensive understanding of estate administration and planning processes
  • Exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Experience with WealthDocx, GEMS, and Clio legal software is a plus
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Notary Public certification is a plus
  • Excellent references and background checks required
  • DISC™ profile assessment required for final candidates

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Massachusetts State Bar (other states a plus)

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice in Massachusetts (additional state licenses a plus)

Skills:

  • Strong legal drafting and document interpretation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and other professionals
  • Time management and organizational skills to handle multiple cases simultaneously
