A law firm is seeking a Senior Patent Agent for their San Francisco, CA location.

Job Overview: The Senior Patent Agent will provide expert guidance in patent prosecution, conduct prior art searches, and manage patent portfolios. Ideal candidates will have extensive patent law experience and a solid technical background in biological or pharmaceutical sciences.

Duties:

  • Conducting prior art searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses
  • Analyzing patents and scientific papers to assist with patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling
  • Managing patent portfolios and developing a patent strategy
  • Providing expert guidance on patent prosecution matters
  • Collaborating with attorneys and inventors to draft patent applications
  • Conducting technical reviews of patent applications

Requirements:

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • 10+ years of patent prosecution experience
  • Ph.D. or M.S. focused in cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, virology, or a related technical field; or chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacy, or equivalent discipline
  • Technical background in biological sciences and pharmaceutical sciences preferred
  • Broad technical knowledge
  • Experience with patent portfolio management and strategy development
  • Excellent academic record
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, fluency in English

Education and Certifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in relevant field preferred
  • Registered Patent Agent
