Job Overview
A prominent law firm in Los Angeles is seeking a dedicated Post-Conviction Relief Attorney to join its growing team. This position offers significant growth opportunities and the chance to work on both criminal and immigration law matters. The ideal candidate will have litigation and/or appellate experience and a passion for post-conviction relief cases. The Post-Conviction Relief Attorney will report to the Supervising Attorney and work closely with a team of attorneys and legal assistants.

Duties

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and obligations, and draft legal documents related to post-conviction relief cases
  • Handle post-conviction relief matters including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce, and early termination of probation
  • Attend motion hearings on behalf of clients and provide post-hearing legal advice on strategy
  • Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing, in collaboration with other criminal attorneys within the firm
  • Draft motions, conduct legal research, and interview clients
  • Analyze probable outcomes of cases using legal precedents and provide clients with comprehensive legal analysis
  • Manage a caseload, ensuring timely and efficient handling of cases
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients and provide case updates

Requirements

  • Experience in criminal defense law or immigration law (or both)
  • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local level
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and client-focused approach
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a high caseload

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law in California

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar

Skills

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Experience with post-conviction relief procedures and court appearances
  • Familiarity with immigration law is a plus, but not required
