Job Overview

A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Associate Attorney to join their Chicago, IL office. This role involves working on diverse civil defense and insurance coverage litigation matters, providing strategic legal representation, and supporting a highly regarded team of professionals. Duties

  • Case Management: Support partners in managing a variety of cases, including personal injury, premises liability, municipal law, insurance broker errors and omissions (E&O), and coverage defense.
  • Litigation Responsibilities: Oversee case progression from initial filing to trial, including:
    • Conducting depositions.
    • Drafting and arguing motions.
    • Representing clients in court hearings (in-person and virtual).
  • Client Interaction: Prepare thorough status reports and trial strategies for clients, conduct examinations under oath, and draft detailed coverage opinions.
  • Discovery and Legal Research:
    • Manage discovery processes by drafting and responding to interrogatories, production requests, and admissions.
    • Draft and pursue declaratory judgment actions.
    • Defend against contractual and extracurricular coverage actions.

Requirements

  • Bar Membership: Active Illinois Bar membership in good standing (Indiana Bar preferred but not mandatory).
  • Experience:
    • At least 3 years of litigation experience, including exposure to Illinois state and federal courts (experience with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois is a plus).
    • Deposition experience and hands-on litigation exposure are preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities effectively.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Analytical and research expertise to handle complex legal issues.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Illinois Bar License (active and in good standing).
  • Indiana Bar License (preferred but not required).

Skills

  • Proficiency in case preparation, motion drafting, and trial strategy.
